bhavanaKIDS provided more than 1600 hours of programming, and served 897 unduplicated students in the 2018/2019 school year!

We doubled our impact this year!

Because our curriculum is designed to be both structured and flexible, and our Educators are trained to focus and specialize in serving particular age groups and populations, we can provide quality yoga and mindfulness programming in a range of educational environments, for students PreK through 12th grade. Special needs and vulnerable populations included!

positive youth development survey data

bhavanaKIDS collected self-reported survey data from a representative sample of the youth we serve across our site locations in 2017/2018. Using a comprehensive survey based on desired outcomes in Positive Youth Development, we revealed significant success and identified indicators for improvement.

Self-Reported Interest Development

The Positive Youth Development Approach indicates that programs supporting young people in developing their individual interests show much higher rates of self-sufficiency and sustainable living for youth. When asked if bKIDS programs helped them develop their interests, this is how the young people we serve responded.

Inclusion and Choice in Learning Goals

One of the most powerful things about the Positive Youth Development approach to program development is the ability to engage young people in choosing their own development - as opposed to traditional power dynamics that require it of them. Through choice, their is a higher rate of buy-in for young people and they are more likely to maintain what they learn through the course of their lives. When the young people in our programs were asked if they felt included in the decisions made about learning in bKIDS classrooms, this is how they responded.

Positive Relationships with Educators

Rapport building is paramount to the work we do at bhavanaKIDS. And their is a clear intersection between that part of our vision and Positive Youth Development models. Creating trusting, supportive relationships with the young people we serve is how we reach them. And research shows that young people who have supportive trusting relationships with the adults in their educational environment are more well-adjusted, have better self-regulation skills and are more resilient. When asked if they had positive and supportive relationships with bKIDS Educators, the young people we serve responded in this way.

Growth Environment

Positive Youth Development requires a safe, accessible, and growth focused environment. bKIDS Educators work hard to create an environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves, empowered to respectfully disagree, and supported in self-regulation and resilience - even when life feels difficult. Creating an environment that is consistent and stable, where students experience both structure and challenge, is paramount to developing free-thinking, empathetic, and contributing students in the classroom and beyond. When asked if they think we are creating an environment like that for them, bKIDS students responded like this.
